WILDERNESS SURVIVAL SKILLS IN ALASKA
These adventure trips in Alaska cover the techniques necessary to remain comfortable in the wilderness with, at best, a minimum of equipment. Although the wilderness survival skills taught are necessary to survive in remote wilderness, the approach is in recognition of nature’s abundance, rather than the struggle to “overcome” it.
Group activities include shelter building, some of which may be slept in by participants, and plant usage. Rudimentary animal tracking is covered to give students the skills to begin building their knowledge of animal movement. Individual projects include fire making, navigation and trapping. In conjunction with trapping theory, individuals will fabricate deadfalls and /or snares but will not actually catch animals.
